Happy new year and thanks for being strong housing advocates with ABC. I appreciate all the work we’ve done together since 2012 advocating for a vibrant Cambridge with housing for all.
In 2017 we have plans to double-down on that mission and become more effective influencing the local conversation about housing development and smart growth. Remember: City Council elections are just 10 months away.
So today I ask you to please take two important steps to help grow ABC in 2017:
Membership: While ABC general meetings, forums and other events will remain open to the community, we need financial resources to make our voice heard in the 2017 election. Our new $20 membership fee is a way for you to more formally commit your support for ABC’s mission. We ask those in a position to give more to consider contributing what you earn in two hours of work.
Join by check (no processing fee):
Payable to A Better Cambridge
12 Douglass Street
Cambridge, MA 02139
The fee should not be a barrier to membership and will gladly be waived for hardship.
Committees: As a volunteer organization ABC runs on the commitment of our members. We ask all members with the time and interest to join one of two new standing committees:
Membership, Fundraising & Outreach - Board members Bill McAvinney and Pamela Thilo will lead this committee devoted to building a diverse ABC membership base and increasing the financial resources we need to be effective.
Policy Initiatives & Elections - Board members Sam Seidel, Alec Papazian, and I will lead this committee to ensure that ABC takes a more proactive role in creating smart growth public policy in Cambridge. This committee will also design and execute ABC’s role in the 2017 City Council elections.
Please note this is a "soft launch" of our ABC membership drive, targeting folks who have been most involved/supportive of our work. Let me know if you have any technical issues with the membership or committee sign up forms/process.
Thank you for investing in ABC. I look forward to our work together this year.
