Important amendments to the 100% Affordable Housing Overlay need your support THIS MONDAY (July 31), when the City Council’s Ordinance Committee holds its first public hearing on them.
These amendments will allow our local non-profit homebuilders to build more affordable housing that we desperately need in Cambridge by removing zoning barriers that limit new housing. See our explainer and this op-ed by Council sponsors for details.
As a parent on Cambridge Housing Authority’s 22,500 household affordable housing waitlist told CHA, “[Affordable housing means] working just one job and being able to be more present in my children’s lives.”
Expressing your support now can make the difference in providing many more Cambridge families with housing they can afford. Opponents of affordable housing will be out in force–and recently sent a mailer making false statements about affordable housing to Cambridge voters–so a strong showing of support is critical!
What You Can Do:
- COMMENT in support on Monday, July 31 at 6:00 pm. [The sign-up form to give public comment opens this Friday, July 28 (for the topic, write “Support for AHO Amendments”).]
If you are unable to attend the hearing, EMAIL the Council and Clerk, and BCC us ([email protected], [email protected], [email protected]), urging the Council to:
- Vote YES to report the AHO amendments favorably from the Ordinance Committee (we expect that vote will happen at a second meeting on Thursday, August 3).
Many thanks, once again, for all of your efforts to support more affordable housing in Cambridge!
