RSVP to Ordinance Committee 8-27-14

We need your presence at the City Council Ordinance Committee meeting next week to stop a terrible idea that could unnecessarily politicize the administration of law in Cambridge.

Next Wednesday, August 27th at 5:30 P.M. the Ordinance Committee will hold a final public hearing before they vote on a proposal to make City Council the exclusive special permit granting authority

This would mean the elected City Council -- most of whom have no professional knowledge of planning or development -- would make decisions about what can and can’t be built in Cambridge, rather than leaving the administration of this law to the impartial and experienced planning board with guidance from our Community Development Department’s professional staff.

ABC opposes this petition because it could seriously hurt our ability to create new affordable and middle class housing at the scale necessary to meet the needs of all Cambridge families.

It’s time to make your voice heard. We’re counting on a strong turnout of opponents at next Wednesday’s Ordinance Committee meeting to put a stop to this terrible idea:
